The Whitsunday Islands
One of the few...
There are just a few places in the world that grab you and won't let go. There's the Lake District in England, the Grand Teton National Park, the islands of Greece, and several others that I'd like to keep secret. The Whitsunday Islands is one of those places.
I first saw them 23 years ago when I did an extended trip along the entire East Coast of Australia. They were beautiful, big, and mysterious. Visible, yet unreachable if you did not have a boat. I longed to explore them. They were gorgeous mounds of green rising out of the ocean in the daytime, and mysterious ridges of black silhouetted against stars at night beckoning me to come and explore their many coves. That longing has never diminished.
The Whitsundays are unique in many ways. First, they're massive and many with plenty of room to explore for years. You won't get bored here. Secondly, there's the weather. Being neither too far north nor too far south, the temperature is often ideal. Clouds and bad weather are seldom a problem. Actually, what is considered bad weather here might be considered nice in many parts of world.
This is my chance to finally get back and truly feel these islands and show the world their beauty.
